To provide opportunities for pupils to inculcate good values, appreciate Chinese culture, develop strong interest and competency in writing and speaking of the Chinese language.
The Mother Tongue Department (Chinese Language) seeks to realise the key goals of Mother Tongue language syllabus, that is to develop in our pupils the 4 basic language skills, spoken and written interaction skills, as well as the 21st century competencies through a variety of classroom activities. In addition, pupils will also be given exposure to Chinese culture and values through various level and school-wide programmes so as to better understand and appreciate the culture. Ultimately, we hope our pupils will experience joy in learning Chinese and use the language confidently in everyday lives.

母语双周 Mother Tongue Fortnight 2019
During Mother Tongue Fortnight, pupils learned about the traditional Chinese folk art of making clay figurine. They were introduced to the history of this cultural art, the materials used and the characteristics of the clay figurines. Our pupils then tried their hands at creating their own ‘clay’ figurines using plastercine. Apart from this, pupils also played word games designed by teachers. Mass reading was one of the many activities planned for Mother Tongue Fortnight as well so as to promote reading and cultivate reading habit in our pupils.
四年级文化营 P4 Cultural Camp 2019
In end May this year, our Primary 4 pupils participated in the Language and Cultural Camp. A variety of activities were planned for our pupils to experience Chinese culture and use the language in a fun and interactive way. In addition to that, pupils from other levels were also given opportunity to play the ‘5 Stones’ Chinese traditional game during recess time.

传统节日的庆祝 Celebration of Traditional Festivals
Traditional festivals form an important part of Chinese culture, the main festivals celebrated in our school are Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn festival. Teachers, pupils and parents come together to celebrate both festivals which provide opportunities for Chinese and non-Chinese pupils to understand Chinese culture and for parents and children to bond over festive celebrations in school.

Our students participated in the 5th National Primary School “Picture Book Creation” Competition in 2019. Our Primary 4 team won the Bronze award and Primary 5 team won the Merit award.
Speak Mandarin Campaign Family Talent Competition 2020
Hu Xuanming (2 Respect) and her mother, Mdm Liu Kejing participated in the “Speak Mandarin Campaign Family Talent Competition 2020”. They did a skit based on the theme, “Our Singapore in 2030” and submitted the video recording for competition. Their submission was awarded: Category B – Finalist. Congratulations to Xuanming and Mdm Liu!
